Angela Barnett,
RDH BS, MAOL

My Story

I am Angela Barnett. My journey began as a graduate of the USC dental hygiene program in 1998. I worked as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the specialty of periodontics and general practice for 10 years.  The desire to teach was always within me. In 2008 I began teaching dental hygiene students full-time. Most of my experience is in some type of leadership role, mostly as junior or senior clinic coordinator. In 2017 I received my Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from St. Mary's University. This allowed me to expand my leadership experience as a program director for three years. My passion lead me back to teaching full-time.

I have always taught with a desire and passion to learn, grow, and  strive to become better at what I do. Over the years as an educator, I have seen students go through generational changes that the world has thrust upon them, whether the rise in the use of cell phones and social media, or living through a pandemic. Each generation has come with unique needs and ways of learning. These needs may present to an educator as "challenges," however, I prefer not to look at it that way. I view each generation, each cohort of students as having unique needs that push me out of my comfort zone to find the best approaches and methodologies that work for them.

In my leadership education, I learned that we must always adapt to current circumstances. Solutions that worked for yesterday's problems will not work today. This has pushed me as an educator in more ways I can explain. I have become adept at quickly identifying a classes needs, and changing curriculum to suit those needs. I have made changes that work and I want to share them with you!
